Walking Routes

Here are some routes we have walked along recently. Use these route cards (What is a route card?) as a short cut if you want to do the walk again.

However, I would still suggest you study the map and confirm the route card is going where you want to go. Some of these routes are good for an evening stroll, perhaps instead of a meeting in the hall

Starting at Kirklevington Village Hall

Route 1. 12km, 80 mins cycling, 180 mins walking.
Kirklevington to Kirklevington Via Hilton. There is a map.
From Kirklevington village hall, go East along Forest lane to the Crown, over the A67 road and along Dents lane. Go along the bridal way at the end, over the road towards Red Hall farm. Cross the river leven, and ride to Hilton, then return to the village via Castlelevington, troutbeck, and Dents lane again.

Kirklevington to Kirklevington. There is a map.
From Kirklevington Village Hall, walk west along forest lane and under the railway. Take the first footpath on the right and follow the footpath through the woods and fields to the next footpath. Turn left then left at the road (saltergill lane) then left at the next road to return you to Kirklevington

Route 14. 7km, 130 mins walking
Kirklevington to Kirklevington via Picton church. There is a map.
From Kirklevington Village Hall, walk west along forest lane and under the railway. Take the first footpath on the left and follow the footpath along the edge of the fields. This takes you to the road to Picton. Follow this road over the railway and then home to Kirklevington via another footpath

Route 2. 42km, 3 hours cycling
Cycle Route Kirklevington to Hasty Bank and Back. There is a map.
Cycle from Kirklevington to Crathorne via the A67, then to Campion Lane, and Black Horse Lane, passing Potto Hall, to Swainby. In Swainby, cycle through the village taking the left turn to Scugdale. Where the Cleveland Way crosses the road, turn left along it (though this is a footpath). Go along the Cleveland way to the Gliding Club, then turn South to meet the Gliding Club road. Follow the road to Carleton Bank, perhaps stop at the Cafe. Follow the contours along the hill to above Pybus and then to Hasty Bank. Go down the road to Great Broughton, then Stokesley and Rudby. At Rudby, ride 100m along the Middleton Road then along the track to Blue Barn, then along the Tracks back to Crathorne. Ride along the road to Kirklevington.

Route 3. 9km, 132 mins walking, about 45mins cycling (modify for cycling)
Around Osmotherley.There is a map.
From Sheepwash car park, cross the ford and walk southerly up the hill. Follow this track along the edge of the wood to meet the road near Chequers farm. Take the footpath just past chequers right into the valley to meet the Cleveland way. Follow the Cleveland way back into Osmotherley then follow the road back to the car park. At the Southern end of Cod Beck reservoir, turn right and walk along the woodland paths to the car park. An alternative is to take the track to the Youth Hostel then go along the woodland paths to the car park.


Walks around Captain Cooks Monument
Route 4. 2km, 36 mins walking
Straight up and Down. There is a Map.
From the car park, walk up the path to the South, straight up to the monument. Loiter for a bit, then retrace your steps.

Walk 5. 3.5km, 1 hour walking
Up then wander back through the woods or go the other way. There is a Map
From the car park, walk up the path to the South, straight up to the monument. Loiter for a bit. Take the Cleveland Way heading East into the woods and then the forest tracks back to the track going uphill, passing 'Coate Moor'

Walk 6. 4km, 80mins walking

Go up Roseberry Topping, then down to the west, towards the moors. Join the Cleveland way and travel South to Captain Cooks Monument Car Park


Walks around Roseberry Topping
Walk 6. 4km, 80mins walking
Roseberry topping to Captain Cooks Monumentor Captain Cooks Monument to Roseberry topping. There is a Map
Go up Roseberry Topping, then down to the west, towards the moors. Join the Cleveland way and travel South to Captain Cooks Monument Car Park

Walk 7. 2km, 40 mins walking
Just up Roseberry Topping. There is a Map
From the car park at Newton under Roseberry, walk up the track towards Roseberry Topping. Walk through to the Eastern Edge of Newton Woods then straight up to the top of Roseberry Topping. Retrace your steps to return to the car park.

Walk 8. 2.75km, 70 mins walking

From the car park at Newton under Roseberry, walk up to Newton Woods. At the woods turn left then follow the top edge of the woods round to the right (southerly) to the South Eastern corner of Roseberry topping. Walk North Easterly then north to the top of the hill. Return along the same route.

Walk 9. 2.75km, 70 mins walking
A bit longer wandering up Roseberry Topping, or go up the reverse direction. There is a Map
From the car park at Newton Under Roseberry, walk up the track to Newton Woods. Pass through the gate and turn right. Follow the path south and slightly uphill to the edge of the wood. Follow the paths up to Roseberry topping top. Return from the top then to the edge of Newton Woods. Follow the edge of the north woods and then back to the car park.
