The Scout association is the largest youth organisation in the world.

There are millions of Scouts. Millions and millions of them, you never know when you might bump into one. They are not obvious from their outside appearance, they have the correct number of heads and arms, they might speak the same language as you. You could be sitting next to one.

So what is Scouting?
Scouting is a uniformed youth organisation and is almost exclusively a voluntary organisation. Scouting still holds true to some of the basic principles laid down by its founder Baden-Powell. Perhaps these can be best summed up by "fun with a purpose".

The Aim of the Scout Movement is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national, and international communities.

There are Scouts in over 200 Countries, and there are about 28,000,000 Scouts in the world. Scouting is open to all, no matter their race, creed or sex.

So What do Scouts Do?
Each Section in a Scout Group is different from every other, its activities are chosen and run by their leaders and Young members. There are general activities that are run by many Scout groups. We do many outdoor activities such as Camping, whether for a weekend, a week, in this country or abroad, we go walking, cycling, 'wide games' (games over a large area - several acres if possible), challenges, many, many outdoor activities. We also run indoor meetings, some of these will be training for the outdoor activities, such as learning to put tents up, others will be useful in life such as first aid, and other will be just for fun.
Scout groups are very flexible in their approach to the activities they run, because they are run locally by the section leaders the programme can be tailored to the members interests rather than be dictated to by the hierarchy of the Scout Association, however the leaders do have a few requirements for activities they have to run (for example, they have to offer a Scout troop a camp each year)

Sounds fun? I think it is.
