How to use the Route Card.

When you click on the Route Card link you will get a form to complete. This is quite a large file so it may take a second or 2 to download
I think all the entries are self explanatory. Besides each field to fill in are prompts you can click on to get a description of what is expected to be filled in. If you hover the mouse over this link, it will give a briefer description of what is required.
Start at the top and fill in each field in turn. You can use the 'Tab' key to move from one field to another.
This route card has space for 20 points along the route, if you are going on a longer walk use a second sheet - But print or save the first one.

For the route details, start at the top and work down adding each point you are walking to. There are only 5 sets of info to add on each line so it can't be that difficult.
Enter the points on consecutive lines, if you miss out lines the computer will think you are going to grid reference '000000' in between the points, and suggest that you are taking a long hike perhaps.

When you press the 'Create' button, the computer will calculate the rest of the route card from your information based on the following assumptions:
- The speed you enter, is your speed along flat ground
- If you are going up hill, each 10m height gained will take 1 min longer
- The calculations work best of the path you are walking along between 2 points is a straight line, though you can correct this by using the 'Wiggle Factor'

Saving the Route
Saving the route is quite easy, but not as easy as pressing the 'Save' button. Complete the form and press the create button. This will produce 5 new windows with the required pages of information on.
To save the route go to 'File - Save As...'. In the dialogue box that pops up, change the file name to whatever you want and make sure the file type is 'html' or 'htm' and click save.
This saves the completed route. If you want to alter the route later you will have to re-enter the information on the route card form

Technical Stuff
This is mostly saved as 1 file. The other forms - Day activity and camp letters have 3 files - the form to fill in, the clever stuff (javascript files), and the logo. I have kept this as one file because it takes longer to create a route card than a letter, so you might want to do this off line. You can save the web page to your local hard drive, a disk, or disconnect from the internet if you want, because this is all 1 file either way should work.
