Note that the Scout, Explorer, Network and leaders laws and promises are the same as each other.

The Promise

On My Honour
I Promise To Do My Best
To Do My Duty To God
and to the Queen
To Help Other People
And to keep the Scout Law

The laws

A Scout is to be Trusted
A Scout is Loyal
A Scout is Friendly and Considerate
A Scout belongs to the Worldwide family of Scouts
A Scout has courage in all difficulties
A Scout makes good use of his time and is careful of possessions and property
A Scout has self respect and respect for others

The Promise and law are at the heart of what we do as Scouts. They express the values we believe in as a Scouting Family.
The Promise is something you make - it is your promise to do as it suggests
When you are 'Invested' you are asked to make your promise in front of the troop, everyone who wears the Scout uniform has done the same thing.
The key to the promise and law is that we should try to act out these values in everyday life, 'Leave the world a little better than you found it'

In the promise, you can substitute 'God' for God, Dharma, or Allah as required.
If you are not British, then 'Duty to the Queen' can be changed to 'Duty to the Country in which I am now living'

Before you critisise someone, walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, you'll be a mile away and wearing their shoes too.

The Cub Promise And Law

A Cub Scout Always does his best

Everyone should try to do their best, as Cub Scouts we include it in our law, as something we should do and it is in the promise as a commitment to try our best in everything we do - as School, playing games, etc., and it is one of our laws

Best: Of the most excellent kind (Oxford Mini Dictionary)
