In the jungle Messau was gathering food and looking after her infant baby, they were quite near the village so Messau had let her baby crawl further away than normal, it was safe near the village normally. Messau didn't know about Sher-Khan. Sher khan was a tiger and he had recently decided that he wanted to come near to the village to hunt. Sher Khan liked hunting and his favourite things to hunt were people.

Sher Kahn had spotted Messau but hadn't spotted a family of wolves who were nearby, father wolf, mother wolf and their 4 wolf cubs. He started stalking Messau, hoping for an easy meal. Messau was lucky because she spotted Sher Khan and ran back to the village to get some villagers to hunt the tiger, she was so frightened she forgot her baby. Father wolf had seen the baby, but had also seen Sher Khan. The wolves hate the tigers, the tigers eat too much so the villages cut away the forest to protect themselves and then the wolves find it harder to hunt food.

Father wolf picked up the baby very gently and walked with him to a cave, but he was spotted by Sher Khan who chased after him. Sher Khan couldn't fit into the cave and was very angry
'Give me the man cub' he growled
Father Wolf wouldn't and Sher Khan went away very angry, but telling father wolf that one day he will eat the man cub. Father wolf was happy that he had upset the tiger and with decided to look after the baby, calling him Mowgli.

They had to show Mowgli to the Wolf Pack so they could decide if he could stay. When Mowgli was being shown to the pack, Sher Khan arrived and demanded that he be given to him. The wolves hate Sher Khan and decided that it would be best if Mowgli could join the pack and they let him stay.

Mowgli learnt a lot in the forest and made good friends with Baloo, a bear and Bagheera a black panther. Baloo and Bagheera also talked to the wolves and helped them decide that Mowgli should stay with the pack.
One day Mowgli was kidnapped by monkeys, but was rescued by Baloo and Bagheera, but mainly by Kaa, a snake and they were all friends then. Mowgli's best wolf friend was grey wolf, one of father and mother wolfs four other cubs.

When Mowgli had grown up a bit, Akela was getting old. Akela was the leader of the pack and the wolves obeyed what Akela said, Akela was sensible and said a lot of sensible thing but had decided to stop being the leader and let a younger wolf take charge. This worried Mowgli because Akela had always looked after him and some of the other wolves who didn't like him might take charge of the pack. Kaa suggested that Mowgli got a bucket of fire from the human village just in case he needed it.
One night at the pack meeting Akela laid beside the leaders rock and the wolves knew it was time to elect a new leader. Sher Khan was there that night and told the wolves to select a new leader and to stop protecting Mowgli. Mowgli frightened the wolves and Sher Khan with the fire and ran away, shouting at the wolves that he would be back. He would be back, with Sher Khans skin. This made Sher Khan furious but he couldn't do anything because of Mowglis fire.

Mowgli ran to the village and was found in the morning by the villagers. Messau, Mowgli's mother recognised him and looked after Mowgli. Mowgli learnt a lot in the village, how to speak 'man talk', and look after the cows. He missed the forest but sometimes saw his animal friends.

One day when he was looking after the cows Sher Khan came into the valley. Mowgli had been warned about this by Mother and Father wolf who hid nearby. Sher Khan spotted Mowgli, and thinking he was all alone decided it was the best time to get his revenge on Mowgli. Sher Khan ran at Mowgli, ready to kill him. The wolves chased the cows at Sher Khan and he was crushed and killed. Mowgli got the dead tigers skin and took it to the villagers. They thought it must have been witchcraft that killed the Tiger and chased Mowgli away from the village.

Mowgli went to the wolf pack meeting that night with the tiger skin and said that he had killed Sher Khan. The wolves said Mowgli could join and lead their pack, but Mowgli said that they hadn't supported him before and he didn't want to rejoin the pack. He would live alone. The wolves elected Akela to be the leader of the pack instead. Balloo, Bagheera and Grey Wolf went with Mowgli to live in the forest and have lots of adventures together
