Camping
Directions To Ravengill Campsite:
Ravengill Campsite is located in the North Yorkshire Moors, at Commondale. Grid Reference 662105.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A SUGGESTED ROUTE AND IT IS THE DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY
TO NAVIGATE SAFELY TO THE CAMPSITE.
Directions From Kirklevington Village Hall.
Leave the Village hall car park by turning Right along Pump Lane, travel along pump lane
until you get to the main road (A167). Turn Right. Turn Right immediately
after crossing the bridge over the Dual Carriageway (A19), into Crathorne.
Pass through Crathorne (Crathorne Arms pub on right hand side), and take the left turning, opposite the post office, towards Hutton Rudby and Stokesley.
Follow this road into Hutton Rudby and then to Stokesley. Travel along Stokesley High Street
until you get to a roundabout, Safeway is in front of you, a petrol station / car garage to the right. Turn Right towards a second roundabout, and go Straight ahead (Second exit) towards Great Ayton
After about 3/4 mile, the road bends left with a turning on the right towards Kildale, take this turning. Follow this road. 1 mile after Easby, turn left towards Kildale, and keep following this road. Commondale is also sign posted from here.
Follow this road to Commondale. This is a moors road, and is unfenced - sheep and other animals wander freely on the road. They might even be asleep on it, or just look at you stupidly and refuse to move.
At Commondale, the campsite is on your Left and there is a sign board 'Ravengill Scout Campsite'. Turn left into here. If you get to Commondale and pass the Pub on your right hand side you have gone too far.
At the campsite go through the gate on your Right (just after the house on the right), follow the track up and round to the Car park and park here. You are now at Ravengill Campsite
You are not allowed to drive on Ravengill campsite, you have to walk from here, unless you are specifically told to by one of the leaders
Mobile Phones:
There is no reception for Mobile phones at Ravengill. This is due to the hills containing Lead - which blocks the signal quite
effectively. The nearest Phone reception is Kildale, and there is a poor signal at the plantation on the hill west of Commondale.
Best to use the wardens phone, or the Public Phone on the western edges of the village.
Camping Areas
When you get to Ravengill, we could be in the following places:
The Jubilee Center. Walk up the track ahead of you for about 500 meters. You pass a wooden building on your right and a toilet block on your left. The Jubilee center is a large wooden building on your left.
The Training Center. Leave the car park, and take the track to your right, this leads to a bridge just below the wooden buildings you can see (on your left as you walk along the track). Walk up to these buildings. The first one is the wardens
accommodation and Tuck Shop, behind this is the training center.
Camping. Walk up the track as if you are going to the Jubilee Center, the camping areas are to your Right, either side of the beck. We often don't know which one we are allocated
until we get there. As you walk up the track keep a look out for us. If you get to the Jubilee
Center without seeing us, walk over the bridge and follow the narrow track back down the valley, again keeping a look out for us. This track ends at the wardens
accommodation, if you still can't see us, ask him where we are camping.
We might even be in the car park.
